Group drones
Last reviewed: 2026-10-08 · Requires: Gold or Platinum
With a Gold or Platinum subscription, you can put drones you know into groups — for example Own fleet, Police, Regular visitors. Each group has its own settings:
- the colour of its drones on the map, and of a selected drone
- the icon size of its drones on the map
- whether a new drone notification is sent for its drones
- whether its flights are saved to the drone history
Drones that aren't in any group follow the Defaults.
The easiest way to build your groups: wait until a drone is detected, then put it in a group straight from its details.
Step 1 — Open the groups from a detected drone
- Tap the drone on the map or in the drone list to open its details.
- In the blue header, tap the group icon (two people). The Groups list opens, with this drone ready to be added.
This also works for a drone in your flight history: open the flight and tap the same group icon.
Step 2 — Create a group (first time only)
- Tap ADD DRONE GROUP.
- Type a name — for example Own fleet — and tap Add.
- The group's settings open; you can set them now (see Step 4) or later. Tap the back arrow to return to the Groups list. The drone is still ready to be added.
Step 3 — Add the drone
- Tap the + next to the group. The drone's ID is already filled in.
- Tap Add.
The drone now gets the group's colour and icon size on the map. Next time a drone of yours shows up, it takes just steps 1 and 3.
Drones are added by their Remote ID, so DroneScout recognises them again on every flight. Put each drone in one group only — if it's in several, only one group's settings apply.
Add a drone that isn't flying
To set up your own fleet in advance, without waiting for each drone to fly: open ⋯ → Groups (the ⋯ menu is the three horizontal dots), tap the + next to a group and type the drone's serial number (UAS ID) — from the label on the drone or from its app.
Step 4 — Choose the group's settings
Tap a group in the list to open its settings:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| New drone notification | On: alert when a drone from this group appears. Off: no alert for these drones — handy for your own drones |
| Save to drone history | Off: this group's flights aren't saved in the flight history |
| Drone color | Colour of the group's drones on the map |
| Selected drone color | Colour of a drone from the group when you've tapped it |
| Icon size | From 25% to 250% of the normal size |
Settings you don't change follow the Defaults. Reset to defaults sets the group back to them. Below the settings, Drones in this group lists the members; remove one with its delete button. Use Rename in the header to change the group's name.
Defaults for all other drones
At the bottom of the Groups list, Defaults holds the same settings for drones that aren't in a group. For example: make unknown drones large and red, and your known groups smaller and grey, so new arrivals stand out at a glance.
Notifications
A group's New drone notification works together with the alerts under ⋯ → Preferences → Notifications: the distance and altitude ranges there still apply. If notifications are off there, switching them on for a group turns them on in Preferences too. To get alerts while the phone is in your pocket, see Keep scanning in the background.
Delete a group
Tap the trash icon next to the group in the Groups list. The drones in it fall back to the Defaults; their flights in the history aren't deleted.
Good to know
- Groups are stored only on your phone, not shared with other devices or users.
- Groups go well with labels: a label names one drone, a group sets how a whole set of drones is shown and handled.
- If your subscription drops below Gold, the drones go back to their standard colours on the map; your groups are kept for when you subscribe again.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| No Groups in the menu, no group icon | Groups need Gold or Platinum |
| A drone in the group doesn't get the group's colour | The ID in the group is exactly the drone's serial number (no extra text or spaces); drones that broadcast a session ID get a new ID every flight |
| Still getting alerts for my own drones | New drone notification is off for their group, and the drones are in that group by their exact serial number |
