Label drones and add notes

Last reviewed: 2026-10-08 · Requires: Gold or Platinum

A Remote ID serial number like 1581F5FKD229400C1234 is hard to remember. With a Gold or Platinum subscription, you can give a drone your own label — "Police drone", "Neighbour's Mavic", "Our survey drone" — and keep notes about it. DroneScout recognises the drone by its Remote ID the next time it flies and shows your label straight away.

Give a drone a label

  1. Tap the drone on the map or in the drone list to open its details.
  2. In the blue header at the top, tap the pencil icon.
  3. Type the label and confirm with the Done / Enter key on your keyboard.

The label appears in bold above the drone's ID. You can do the same for a drone in your flight history: open the flight and use the same pencil icon.

To change a label, tap the pencil again and type the new one. To remove it, tap the trash icon in the header — this only removes the label, not the drone or its flights.

Where labels show up

Add notes to a drone

For more than a name — who the operator is, when you saw it, what it was doing — use notes:

  1. Open the drone's details.
  2. In the blue header, tap the notes icon (the page with a pencil, below the pencil icon).
  3. Type your notes. They're saved as you type.

Clear All deletes the notes for that drone. Like labels, notes belong to the drone's Remote ID and are there again the next time it shows up.

How DroneScout recognises a drone

Labels and notes are linked to the drone's Remote ID: its serial number, or its registration ID if it broadcasts that instead. That ID stays the same flight after flight, so the label comes back automatically.

Some drones broadcast a session ID instead, which changes every flight. A label on such a drone only applies to that one flight.

Troubleshooting

Problem What to check
No pencil or notes icon Labels and notes need Gold or Platinum; the icons only appear in the drone's details, not in the list
Label doesn't come back next time The drone broadcasts a session ID that changes every flight, or no ID at all
Label didn't save Confirm with the keyboard's Done / Enter key; an empty label isn't saved — use the trash icon to remove one
